Based in New Lynn, these gardens were started in 2004 as sustainability demonstration gardens, including a small 'food forest', bee garden, productive swale and citrus guild (along with interpretation signs throughout). The community gardens were started with the help of Auckland Council's EIF fund. In 2008 we held a 2 day community workshop to build Cuban-style organiponico beds, which were the beginnings of our community allotments, all within the Sustainable Living Centre grounds at EcoMatters. Even Glen Eden's Herb Group has a demo herb bed on our site! LATE 2015: EcoMatters Visitors Centre is now across the road (Olympic Place) and more food garden development is planned as we develop the site within Olympic Park. We are currently (Feb 2016) working with New Lynn's Generation Ignite to get a food hub happening. Both sites will be operating with food production in mind. We regularly hold workshops which support people in their food growing endeavours covering a range of subjects by experts in the field. Volunteers always welcome!
