The Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund is a new grants programme that supports projects to reduce and minimise the amount of waste going to landfill.

This fund emerged from the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP), adopted in June 2012.

The vision of the WMMP is to help Auckland achieve the status of the world's most liveable city, by working towards zero waste by 2040. Through the fund, Aucklanders have the chance to help reach that goal.

Funding will be allocated to four priority outcome areas, which are:

  • resource recovery initiatives and facilities
  • commercial waste
  • organic waste
  • community action and behaviour change.

  • Group began 10 October 2014
